About

Like most people, I am a mixture of the good and not so good, and of success and failure. I live near Oswestry with Jenni, my wife and life partner.  Our wonderful sons have long flown the nest and have lovely families and interests of their own.   They both work in air quality and related environmental fields.

I spent most of my working life at The Quinta, here in Northwest Shropshire. First, it was as a social worker/teacher at The Quinta School, a Barnardo’s Community Home [Education]. When the school closed in 1980, I was made redundant. Eventually I moved to Leicestershire and spent four memorable and somewhat traumatic years working for Social Services.

I returned to The Quinta on July 4th, 1985, for a temporary appointment to open a Christian Centre for the new trustees. For the second time in my life, a temporary appointment became permanent. We stayed for almost 29 years. I was so privileged to be a part of this remarkable venture. I have written about this experience as part of ‘An Unbelievable Inheritance’.

Jenni and I are now well into retirement and experiencing the effects of age. Our trail walking has evolved into making ‘journeys’.  Before the pandemic, we started working our way down the Thames, but only walking some of the Thames Path.  What remains is to go through London – maybe one day!  Some of our retirement holidays/journeys are featured on the travel pages.

The ‘Faith Matters’ pages of Livetheflow are growing in significance because our modern lifestyles are increasingly bypassing the key issues of life. This is serious.

We are blessed by living in a rural cottage with a productive garden. Family, community and church activities along with other interests keep us well occupied – not to mention the lifelong character-building experience of supporting Aston Villa.
